Subject:
Dear Supervisors,
(Edit Letter Below)
For three years, The Bull Run Mountain Conservancy, Northern VA Park Authority, and Prince William Park Authority have been in a heated discussion about the fate of Silver Lake. When the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy, having finally become so frustrated with this county, they withdrew their golden proposal to double the acreage and assume financial responsibility for the work to open Silver Lake to the public, at NO cost to the taxpayers, the Park Authority became the only option to assume ownership. There were countless meetings, phone calls, and e-mails to Board of County Supervisors. When Toll Brothers proffered the land it was done with the intent that it would be a 'nature conservancy', and overwhelmingly, there has been one consistent theme - citizens want passive recreation. I ask the Supervisors to abide by the agreement drafted by the County Attorney, during a meeting, WITH the Park Authority, which clearly outlines the uses that encompass what citizens want and uses that are more in line with what the Bull Run Conservancy has been proposing....fishing, swimming, hiking, rustic camping, creating a nature center, horseback riding, etc. The long term protection of Silver Lake has become paramount. The ONLY way to protect Silver Lake, for generations to come, is for the Prince William County Board of Supervisors to adopt a deed restriction that coincides with passive recreation. By taking this action the board is demonstrating they are not only fiscally responsible, but also environmentally conscious.
Sincerely,
